The Tesoro Compadre is an excellent value for money entry-level model that provides important features that are normally only found in more expensive models. The design was geared toward ease of use, which is evident by its lack of superfluous buttons and dials. All you have to do is switch on the machine via the single control dial and adjust your Discrimination levels to reject trash items and you’re off. It is an excellent partner for budding coin shooters and treasure hunters.
The Compadre’s operating frequency of 12 kHz is very well adapted to detecting gold as well. It also makes the machine more sensitive to small pieces of jewelry, especially with the 5.75 inch search coil configuration. Design-wise, the smaller coil also makes it easier to perform Pinpointing with its more specific search area.
An 8-inch round coil is also available as a standard package. The coils are also water resistant so you can take it with you when searching and wading across streams and ponds for buried treasure.
The Tesoro Compadre is also extremely lightweight, weighing in at only 2.2 lbs making it less cumbersome even for very young or more mature detectorists.
Using a single Alkaline 9-volt battery should provide anywhere from 10 to 20 hours of hunting depending on how many signals you can pick up between charges.
