The 1280-X Aquanaut is a rugged fully submersible metal detector from Fisher Research Labs. It is an excellent relic hunter and is rated to go as deep as 250 feet in fresh or salt water. It features simple turn-on-and-go performance making it easy to use even when diving for deep treasure.
The Fisher 1280x features automatic ground balancing and adjusts itself to different mineralization levels and is even effective in salt water. A full range discrimination turn dial lets you easily filter out unwanted trash signals or alert you of all metal responses at its minimum setting. A red LED on the control panel also flashes to alert you of target detection, extremely useful when treasure hunting underwater. The LED also acts as a battery level test light.
This deep seeking metal detector can also be configured to be worn attached to the hip giving excellent ergonomics for diving. The Piezo Electric headset that comes with the 1280x is also fully submersible and is hardwired to the device to ensure a water tight seal for the electronics.
The included search coil can be 8 or 10 inch according to user preference and is not interchangeable with accessory coils. A set of 8 AA batteries will power the machine for an astonishing 60 to 80 hours ensuring you won’t get stranded in the middle of the ocean with a metal detector with no juice.
