Best metal detectors for beginners

If you’re just starting out metal detecting there are sever great beginner metal detectors that will get you started in the hobby. For this list we’ve chosen to stick to the $200 – $300 price range since this is a great place to start for an entry level unit.

There are cheaper detectors out there but many of them are of poor quality and it’s important to get a brand name unit, even if you are new to metal detecting. These detectors would be great for adults just starting out or kids around age 10 or older.

Garrett Ace 250 – Probably the most popular entry level detector our there.

Fisher F2 – A great starter machine. Many prefer it over the ace 250.

Tesoro Silver Umax – Very high quality unit with lifetime warranty and excellent circuitry. If you don’t require an lcd screen then this model is a good choice.

White’s Coinmaster – Another good brand name starter machine.

Teknetics Delta 4000 – Great starter unit with a numerical target id system which sets it apart from the rest.

Bounty Hunter Quick Draw ii – Good little starter unit. Can usually be picked up for little cost on craigslist or ebay.
